Bar Harbor Port Security Building

Design Group Collaborative designed Bar Harbor’s new port security building located at the municipal pier. The building houses a new harbormaster’s office and public safety offices. The port security building was funded largely by a 2009 grant from the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The port security building supports radar and video monitoring equipment.

The two-story, 1,800 s.f. structure affords panoramic harbor views and a conference area. Due to Bar Harbor’s history as an international ferry port, cruise ship visits average almost 200 per year. Bar Harbor maintains a federal designation as a Class A port of entry. This status is held by just 327 ports in the United States.
