The Customs House

In Southwest Harbor, The Customs House, originally built in 1858, is now a private home.  The homeowner engaged DGC to assist with decision making involved in converting this summer home into a full-time residence. Using design sketches and cost estimates as tools, we moved forward together creating a new entry and foyer, a lower level master suite, and a carriage house guest suite. Every effort was made to ensure the new spaces complement the aesthetic, quality, and character of the existing home.

DGC worked with the homeowner, providing initial sketches, construction documents, and construction oversite, as well as furniture layouts, selection, and procurement services. We incorporated existing furnishings with new while including furnishings from the client’s winter home. This holistic approach to
the design process resulted in a warm and welcoming atmosphere, that this client now calls home.
